Some small-scale farmers in the Mbatyerev area of Benue State have received free farming tools and supplies to help their businesses. The items were donated by Mr. Vitalis Tarnongu, the CEO of Teryima Nigeria Limited.
Mr. Tarnongu, who is also a coordinator for the Federation of Agricultural Commodity Associations of Nigeria (FACAN), said the donation was to help struggling farmers. He said, "I derive uncommon joy in assisting people to overcome their challenges and positively impact society."
He explained that this is part of a regular effort he makes to give back to the community and help fight hunger. He added, "I believe that this gesture would reduce crime, tackle hunger, and assist government efforts towards food security."
Mr. Tarnongu thanked his partner, Mr. Emmanuel Akor, a technical lead at Syngenta, for his support. On behalf of the farmers, Rev. Fr. Michael Melladu received the items and urged other people and companies to follow suit.
This is a great example of an individual and a private company taking direct action to help their community. Small-scale farmers often have a hard time affording the tools and supplies they need to grow food, so this donation will have a real, positive impact on their ability to farm and earn money.
The donation also shows that solving issues like food security and poverty requires help from everyone, not just the government. By using his company to help others, Mr. Tarnongu is providing a great example of how businesses can be a powerful force for good in their communities.
