The Nigerian Federal Government, in partnership with several organizations, has unveiled a new Youth Manifesto in Agriculture for 2025 to 2030.

This document is a strategic roadmap designed to place young people at the forefront of the country's agricultural transformation. The manifesto was co-created by youth from all six geopolitical zones, reflecting a bottom-up approach to policy-making.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Abubakar Kyari, described the manifesto as a testament that the "young populace were not just beneficiaries of policy but architects and drivers of the future of agriculture in the country."

The ministry has committed to turning the manifesto into actionable policies and investments. The plan outlines eight key priorities, which include ensuring young people have access to land, finance, and technology. It also focuses on gender inclusion and providing mentorship to help young people succeed.

Ms. Nkiruka Okorkwo, a co-founder of the Leonard and Nkiruka Okorkwo Foundation (LANOF), which helped develop the manifesto, described it as a "people-driven roadmap" for ensuring young people are represented and recognized in the agricultural sector.

She emphasized that its strength lies in being co-created by and for the youth. The minister echoed this sentiment, charging young people to "Rise to the challenge. Own this process. Build enterprises, not just farms. Innovate solutions, not just demand opportunities."

This landmark document suggests a significant shift in government strategy toward a more inclusive and youth-led agricultural future. By addressing major barriers like access to land and credit, the manifesto could genuinely unlock the potential of a young population eager to innovate.

This is a crucial step towards achieving national food security and economic growth, and its success will depend on the commitment of all stakeholders to turn its bold vision into reality.
