Prof. Sidiqat Aderinoye-Abdulwahab, a professor at the University of Ilorin, has donated a total of N1.5 million to the best male and female graduating students in the school's Department of Agriculture. The donation was announced during her inaugural lecture.

The professor said the donation was her way of giving back to society. She gave N750,000 to the best male graduating student in honor of her husband's support. She also gave another N750,000 to the best female graduating student in memory of Ms. Hajiya Fauziyah Ali, who encouraged her to get her PhD.

In her lecture, which focused on "Sustainable, Smart and Safe Pastoralism in Nigeria," Prof. Aderinoye-Abdulwahab spoke about the long history of conflict between farmers and herders. She said these clashes are often due to competition for limited resources. She advised the government to educate herders and create special units to help solve these conflicts.

This is a generous and impactful gesture from the professor. By providing a prize for both the best male and female students, she is encouraging academic excellence and gender equality in agriculture. It shows that people in academia are actively giving back to their communities and investing in the next generation.

The timing of her donation, during a lecture on herder-farmer conflicts, is also significant. It highlights the direct link between academic research and solving real-world problems. Her expert analysis of the herder-farmer conflict is a reminder that these issues are complex and require thoughtful solutions that go beyond just one approach.
